Lum Metik means "Mother Earth" or "mother of the People" in Tzotzil, a Mayan dialect. By holding itself accountable to both the environment and the communities that create these crafts, Lum Metik represents a new concept in fair trade.
Lum Metik markets products for Mexican community based cooperative projects and social organizations domestically and internationally.
Under the principles of a fair market, Lum Metik strives to offer commercial space for Mexican products and services. These products will be supplied through Mercado Mayapan, businesses in El Paso as well as other American and international markets.
La Mujer Obrera is a non- profit organization that has embraced the rights of Mexican workers for 25 years along the US/ Mexico border. It has worked to create jobs and small business opportunities to improve the economic conditions for displaced workers. La Mujer Obrera also works to promote cultural values for the immigrant community.
